Doing videos instead of live demosI was planning to be able to demo our new product live on my upcoming cruise (the Marketers Gone Wild one), but I've since reconsidered and decided to just record videos before I leave home. Why? NO, it's not because the software isn't ready and I have to fake it up. Yes, that would be a reasonabe possibility. In this case the bigger issue is that the application requires connectivity. So much of the value of the app is based on it's integration with other sites, services, etc. If I can't connect to article directories or whatever else, it's not going to be a very exciting demo. The boats do have Internet access, but I don't know how reliable it is or how fast. I'd hate to put off demos or have them interrupted because the connection is being wonky. The time is really expensive as well, but that's not much of an issue for the amount I'd be using it. It is nice to know that every time I demo a video it will work correctly, nothing will surprise me, and I know exactly what to expect. Of course I won't be able to show anything I didn't pre-record, and I can't change anything if it turns out I'm not answering someone's questions. The only other unfortunate thing is I have to make time to actually create the videos before I go. I have enough to do as it is, it's probably going to mean a late night or two to get them finished up in time. I guess I really just need to get everything recorded - I can always edit on the boat if I have to. If you're going on the cruise, maybe you'll get a chance to check out the preview of the new site.
