The Power of Time

One of the great things about the Internet is that sometimes the best thing you can do is nothing at all. A while back I wrote about trying to get ranked for the keyword 'Ben Roy'. At the time I was on page 13 I believe, and it seemed like the first page was a long ways away.

What I could have done was run out and start a campaign to get my site ranked. In fact, that's what I thought I should have done. What I actually did instead was get distracted by other things and not pay any attention to this site. Terrible, right? Wrong!

A month later, I'm near the top of the second page in Google for 'Ben Roy'. I didn't do anything except wait. When I posted to my blog I used a feed pinger to let aggregators know about the RSS feed, but since the last update I haven't done any work at all.

Of course I'm not finished - I need to get onto the first page, and in fact I'd really like to own the first spot. But for the almost non-existent effort I put in, I think page 2 is pretty good. Which just goes to show, sometimes doing nothing at all is the best course of action.
